ENG Meeting October 6, 2005
Speaker: Jack Chapman
Subjecting: “Negotiating Your Salary: How To Make $1000 a Minute”
Based on his most recent version of the same title, Jack Chapman presented a very compelling case about the finer points of negotiation during a job search. Combining lecture and role-playing exercises, Jack demonstrated quite clearly how the reception of and timing of the offer for this new job depends very much on your reaction and preparation. For example, do you know who should broach the subject of salary first? Further, do you realize that there are often many other areas of enhanced compensation that remain unexplored unless you are prepared?
As Jack took us through a number of direct response scenarios, it became quite clear that this exercise with potential employers is certainly a two way process and knowledge of jobs and skills is only partial preparation for the interview and job acceptance. As a bonus, Jack also reviewed various aspects of compensation that may or may not apply to your current situation but will be valuable in the future. It is well worth every ENG member’s time to include the information contained in this insightful book as part of the search process. Easy to read and simple to understand . . .. Don’t leave home without it!
