You miss an opportunity to meet and learn from successfully landed members. Bob Podgorski, Cheryl Bonander, John Orfe, and Gary Anderson related their experience as well as pearls of wisdom.
Bob had been a VP of HR in many industries including manufacturing. He was disenchanted about prospects amid downsizing and outsourcing. He blended his skill sets to land an ever expanding position with Harper College where he is now performing multiple functions including HR, Facilities Management, & Business Outreach functions. His message: "Learn how to morph".
Cheryl Bonander used her marketing skills to return to banking. She had two simultaneous offers. As a matter of fact, Cheryl started her new position as Director of Marketing with Hyde Park Bank several days after the meeting. Her message: "Find what you love doing and keep at it".
John Orfe landed back in sales and marketing in the industry he came out of chemicals. Univar USA is John's employer for now. John has no rose colored glasses. His mantra: "We live in a transactional economy".
Gary Anderson took advantage of his past skill sets and contacts. Although, he did not complete his PhD he always enjoyed working the scientific and medical side of business. He is now Director of Clinical Programs for the Alexian Healthcare Hospitals. His message: "Never give-up".
We thank these landees and wish them success. We are aware that given our economy, level, qualifications, and age in life that we are likely to experience recycling in our jobs about once every three to four years. With this in mind it is valuable to maintain our networks (i.e.. remain connected with our ENG home).
Our next program is Thursday, (1/8/04). Scott Kane, Principle of Gray Hair Management, and another spin-off of ENG will present the "Rules of Networking". Mark your calendar and plan to bring a friend. You will have your meeting fee waved.
