“Opportunities in Consulting”
By Jeff Timm

Opportunities in Consulting presents a realistic look at independent consulting as a career switch and the steps one must consider before deciding to make that switch.

Opportunities in Consulting is the result of two independent consulting personal experiences using the knowledge gained and lessons learned which lead to a successful career path switch. The presentation is built around personal and family experiences which addresses real life situations one faces during a transition…what do I want to do with my career? Am I doing what I really enjoy? Am I suited for this “lifestyle”? How does my career choice affect my family? Is there another way to make a buck in this ever changing employment environment of short job tenures, age considerations, and work/non-work life balance pressures?

Opportunities in Consulting begins with a review of general assessments. Things like conducting an honest appraisal of where one is and future direction, understanding ones skills/qualifications and the role of networking are covered. Additionally, sole proprietor experiences of self and family expectations and business realities of working for ones self are discussed. Finally, sections on consulting agreements, pricing and marketing one self are covered with specific recommendations on how to handle each.

"Act Like a Giraffe, Not a Turtle"

Presented by Julie Roth

Whether you are in transition or just desiring to find a new job, you need to Act Like a Giraffe, Not a Turtle. This presentation and Q&A session will encourage and teach you to act like a giraffe to be found.

Among the tactics - you will learn how to:

> Effectively build a network
> Actively maintain communication with your network
> Successfully expand uncovering new opportunities
> Dynamically develop your job search efforts
> Vigorously increase your chances of being found for a new role

After finding herself in transition multiple times, Julie Roth learned effective ways to not only build an active network, but also sustain being top of mind. She speaks on the topic of being found and not crawling in a shell like a turtle.

As a former marketing executive with notable companies including Motorola and U.S. Robotics, she is passionate about using marketing principles in a job search. Now as an executive recruiter and founder of Blue Mark Partners, Ltd., the same tactics are used to build the business and strengthen client relationships.
